VOLUNTEER & INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Internships are offered focusing on different areas of interest:
• Education
• Marketing/Public Relations
• Operations
• Ticket Services/Box Office
In addition to their experience within a specific area of internship focus, interns will also gain insights about many other administrative areas of nonprofit theater.
If you are not enrolled in school you can still JOIN OUR VOLUNTEER STAFF, working one day a week, weekends or a few hours a day.

INTERNSHIP FOCUS AREAS
                 
Education
Depending on the term, apprentices in the Education Department will have the opportunity to participate in the planning and maintenance of various Educational Programs, such as:
• Researching and developing educational materials (Teacher’s Resource Guides) to correspond with the productions being presented at the theater.
• Assistance with the coordination and running of the School Performances.
• Participation in Classroom Workshops and the Theater Workshop Series to include the possibility of offering facilitation support.
• Maintaining the database of schools and community organizations in the New York City area, including data entry.
Marketing/Public Relations
One of the most extensive Internships and a primordial focus for our company. Marketing/Public Relations Department will assist in all aspects of marketing, publicity, advertising, merchandising and community outreach initiatives used to promote our Theater and its shows, including:
• Promotions and public relations for shows, sending press releases, updating press contacts, researching
group sales for the shows;
• Assembling and maintaining ticket buyers and publicity mailing lists, inputting data for mailing lists.
• Assisting with ongoing press mailings helping in the office during mass mailings.
• Assisting in the planning of special events and email blasts.
Marketing and Public Relations also include distribution and promotion and activities including:
• Taking flyers, postcards and brochures around to area stores, restaurants, doctors’ offices,
community centers, groceries, theaters, etc.
• Approach your company for a monetary contribution (we’ll help you with printed materials and/or
an introductory letter)
• Do you know someone in media (print, radio or TV) who could write an article, host us on a program,
or provide other free publicity (we’ll help with intro material)?
Operations
Interns will work closely with the managing director and staff on projects such as:
• Company management activities surrounding productions at the theater
• Distribution of the season's schedule of activities
• Assisting with the planning and execution of special school performances
• Being present at special school performances to assist coordinating admissions.
Production Details/Operations 2
• Planning of rehearsal schedule
• Helping to maintain current records of rehearsals and school performances
• General telephone and clerical work
• Helping with preparation for special events
• Some interaction with performing artists and stage managers.
Production
An Internship in Production is an opportunity to gain insight into the many aspects of the production process. Production interns will divide their time between work in the office and backstage at the theater (it is also possible for students to concentrate on one of these two areas according to individual preference). Responsibilities can include:
• Assisting with maintenance of theatrical technical equipment
• Assisting with load-ins and load-outs
• Learning basic theatrical lighting design and technical skills with hands-on experience during special events.
Interns will gain experience in:
• Production office - the technical and scheduling concerns of getting a production up and running,
and the daily tasks of managing a Production department.
• Technical work and assistance – Job function will include working with the crew on live productions,
from load-in to load-out, including assisting in the specific duties of different departments, including:
lighting, sound, props and wardrobe
Box Office/ Ticket Services
Ticket Services is responsible for ticket sales, distribution customer service, and ticket box office sales for the season. Ticket Services Volunteers/Interns will be involved in all facets of the department, including:
• Technology: database management (mailing list is built at the box office);
• Customer Service: learning techniques for dealing with customer problems and researching
industry service standards.
• Finance: preparing computerized box office reports.
